My Dreams as an Antinatalist

I’ll share my idea of what would give me a decent amount of satisfaction when I’m about to end my existence.

MANDATORY VEGAN CERTIFICATION LABELING FOR ALL PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

As it stands, products that are produced without directly causing pain to non-human animals can be vegan-certified if their producers choose to apply for the certification.

Ideally though, I want to see every single product and service labeled vegan or non-vegan, and consumers not having to use any external help (i.e. Googling on their phones or using “is this vegan” kind of apps, or whatever it may be) to make the ethically right choice, right where and when they are about to make a purchase.

Abolition of animal agriculture is neither the premise or goal of this particular dream, so I think this one has a decent amount of chance of coming true compared to other dreams of mine.

GOVERNMENTS TAKING ACTUAL MEASURES TO ABOLISH ANIMAL AGRICULTURE

We could never exactly tell whether the maximum sufferer*1 among farmed animals suffer more pain than that among humans.

However, there are twice as many farmed animals as humans, which means that, if we define an “extremely painful life” as a life that contains more than 95 units of pain on the scale of 100 and the chance of any given individual experiencing it is 0.001%, there’s a higher chance of one or more individual farmed animals experiencing an extremely painful life than humans, at least theoretically.

Just like that math problem back in school days where we rolled X dice and found the probability of at least one showing 6!

The bigger X is, the higher the chance is of getting 1 or more dice rolling a 6.

*1: The maximum sufferer is the consciousness who suffers the most pain; the individual who should be given the moral consideration first, according to painism.

Humans create farmed animals and throw them into environments where they can supposedly easily experience a huge amount of pain as individuals who don't deserve any moral consideration in the first place, so it’s all the more reasonable to give farmed animals, as a category, priority over humans.

I imagine it will take much longer for humanity to reach a consensus on the immorality of human procreation than that of animal agriculture, so this dream of mine is not only likely to be more pressing ethically (painistically, to be more precise), but also much more likely to come true than complete abolition of human procreation.

GLOBAL ANTINATALIST FESTIVAL HELD EVERY 5 YEARS

I no longer remember when I started dreaming of the sight of a temporary stage placed in the middle of a grassy field, booths of antinatalist groups/organizations/websites around it, tents for attendants to stay in, a variety of programs throughout the 48-hour event, and antinatalists from all over the planet celebrating the existence of each other, union, and friendship as fellow antinatalists.

An international event that antinatalists can attend both offline and online held every 5 years is one of my dreams.

Originally I was thinking of 10 years instead of 5, but when I shared this dream on Twitter, someone told me they think 10 years is a bit too long and 5 is better.

Now I’m convinced of it.

If it’s 10, even the luckiest of folks would be able to attend only a few festivals in their lifetime.

CONTENT OF MY PERCEPTIONS PROVING TO BE THE ONLY WORLD THAT ACTUALLY EXISTS

Dreaming costs nothing, so why not?

The most ambitious dream of mine is that I somehow find out that all I’ve been doing to help others has been totally in vain, because there’s no “others” in the first place.

For this dream to come true, however, I would need to

  1. know for certain that I have the ability to “become” someone/something else to know whether that thing is painient (capable of experiencing pain), and

  2. know that there is no one/nothing that I can “become” because the content of my perceptions is the only world that exists, and there is no other world outside of me.

Between this dream and me are hurdles that I can’t even try to overcome.

Besides, from your perspective, this dream of mine is something that clearly could never come true for me.

You exist, here and now, self-evidently, living in the world of the content of your perceptions.

It’s my existence, not yours, that should be doubted.

Even if you assume that I exist and do have this dream, you already live in the world of your subjective experience, meaning my world isn’t the only one in existence.
